Just watched the short, and may I say well done. I had read the script a while back but I wished I hadn't because I knew what was coming!

"Its a slow film... no MTV editing "

I wouldn't say it was slow, it worked well at the pace it was at, plus MTV editing is gimmicky- it wouldn't work on a performance piece like this. The emphasis was all on the performance, and they were all very accomplished performances; very good acting.

An all round great short film, enjoyed it immensely. Well done

Nicely done. Great job. It's great to see the finished product. I read the script earlier as well, so I saw it coming. I think her smile kinda gave it away as well. But it was still a great peformance.

wow... first thanks for your comments, both here, and on the script. As you may have seen it was a revised script.

The bearded actor is a m8 of mine, who I think, baring he never acted in a film before, did great. The woman isent an amateur, shes a professional actor, who ive used before. Luckily she likes me

As some may recall, I wrote this script for a contest where one has 48 hours to make a movie, on a given subject. This years subject was "tolerance" and lucily the script could be used with a few minor tweaks in writing and directing. 180 films are participating, and 30 will get nominated further... Ill let you know how it goes. First prize is 10.000? to shoot a film... wouldnt mind that! However i'll be very happy just getting nominated.

In regards to her giving it a way, I dare think that its becuase you knew... I think first time viewers would be very lucky to think "hey, I bet thats his wife"... buuut... who knows

I directed her slightly less on a stand off, since the theme was "tolerance"... I wanted the jury to think, "ah ok, its about her being tolerant towards this man, while the others clearly weren't"

id agree that theres a few looks she gives thats gives the plot away. She needed to be abit more standoffish until the fact he says she is pretty and then she begins to engage him more, that way we think its just becos he was being nice to her. As it was those looks gave it away, but maybe im just saying that becos i knew the ending and i was looking for the clues.

I know we all use amateur actors so getting good performances is often the hardest thing but i felt the dudes drunken state wasnt very convincing, its like he thought if he walked abit funny he would look drunk. But beside that there was the good performances the ex wife being the best.

I think you should of used a tripod more as the shots where abit jarring, whether this was for effect of some kind i dont know. But i just thought it was distracting. You could of mounted the camera on a tripod and still panned from him to her in the same way, but without the shaking.

Very well done.

Here's a few tech questions:

what format did you shoot it in?
what did you use for sound recording? (list gear and process)
what did you use to edit?

Thanks for sharing!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'd agree with that comment, only reason that I didn't mention it was because faking drunkenness is possibly one of the hardest things an actor can attempt to do. Try it yourself at home!

Hey.. Im no tech expert, but heres what I know

- Shot on Sony PD150 (3ccd DVcam), with some kind of filter in it
-Sound was microports for a few shots, and a boom with some expensive broadcast mic... dont know details.
- Edited using Pinnacle Studio 8, a ****** home editing program which happned to have made a deal as a sponsor for the contest. Simple program, fairly easy to work with, but very limited comming from programs like FCP and Premiere.
